Release Notes – March 31st 2023

Hello! and welcome to this week’s release notes for tldraw.

This will be the final update before we exit beta, so expect some last-minute house-cleaning and quality assurance while we prepare for our (re)launch. 🚀 If you’d like to learn more about that, check out our blog post!

What’s new

You can now paste from Excalidraw. While the styles are a bit different between the two apps, we’ve done our best to preserve your choices (such as labels and arrow bindings).

You can now move content to a new page with the context menu. Previously, you would have had to create that new page first. To try it out, right click on a shape or selection and select Move to page > new page.

We’ve restored the ability to snap to the center of a shape by dragging a handle close to the center. Yet another surprisingly nuanced arrow feature.

There’s been a huge community effort around translations! Thanks to our amazing contributors, you can now find full translations for 10 additional languages:

  • Catalan (new)
  • Finnish (new)
  • Italian
  • Korean
  • Nepali
  • Romanian (new)
  • Russian
  • Thai
  • Ukrainian
  • Vietnamese (new)

There’s also improved partial support for 6 languages:

  • Arabic
  • Danish
  • Galician
  • Hungarian (new)
  • Polish
  • Turkish

And we’ve updated some of our existing languages too, based on community contributions:

  • German
  • Spanish
  • French

Improvements

  • tldraw now uses your preferred language when it loads.
  • Using the draw tool will no longer change your selected shapes.
  • You will automatically select images, bookmarks and embeds when you paste them.
  • We’ve improved the tooltips on arrowhead style options.
  • We now show a message when you try to open a file into a shared project.

Fixes

  • Fixed a bug where page menu items changed height when being edited.
  • Fix a bug where a clipped frame could have shapes placed into it.
  • Fixed triple-touch gesture not exiting pen mode.
  • Fixed some long translations making the style menu too wide.
  • Fixed some long translations squashing arrowhead style options.
  • Fixed some long translation strings getting hidden by overflowing the menu.
  • Fixed a bug with resizing where the size of line and draw shapes wouldn’t match the cursor position.
  • Simplified the outlines of line and draw shapes.
  • Fixed a bug where the selection box could stay visible after pinching.
  • Fixed a bug where you could undo changes to the window size.
  • Fixed a bug where your focus could get trapped when editing text in nested tldraw projects.

  • Fix an issue preventing rooms with names longer than 32 characters from being opened.
  • Fixed projects not importing from the original tldraw if they had too many shapes inside.
  • Fixed projects not importing from the original tldraw if they contained some invalid number data.
  • Fixed ovals being too small when imported from the original tldraw.
  • Fixed a rare crash caused by creating a group with nothing inside it.
  • Fixed the “Back to content” button sometimes not appearing.
  • Fixed read-only rooms continuously trying to fetch the project’s QR code.
  • Fixed Apple Pencil interactions not working correctly in the help menu.
